SOFIA RIGGEN (1976)

Mexican Filmmaker. She has developed her film career in Mexico City as well as her hometown, Guadalajara, working in short films, full length features as well as documentaries. She has worked in production, art, direction, as well as in sound editing and edition, with well known personalities like: Arturo Ripstein, Gerardo Tort, Jose Luis García Agraz, Gabriel Beristain among others.

Her first short documentary “Vidas en  Flamenco” (“Flamenco Lives”) received the “Nuva Asturia” prize for the Best Original Music in the Catalunya’s International Film Festival in Sitges (Spain) in 2004.  This documentary has been shown in television channels such as Barcelona Television (BTV), TV 3 (Catalunya) and International Spanish Television (TVE). It was bought by TVE for world broadcast.  This documentary was also chosen as part of the official selection of the VI International Documentary Festival “Santiago Alvarez in Memorian” in Cuba. 

In 2005 she opens, along with her brother, a production company: “Riggen Films” where they produce documentaries, short films, music videos and others.

Riggen’s first Feature Documentary “Us, of uruguayans and carnival”, where she co-directed with Paola Perkal, premiered in Punta del Este International Film Festival on 2007, and has been showned in several International Film festivals.
